First fight night a success

Last night was our new local group's first fight night and I personally feel that it was a success. From my observations it seemed like everyone had a really good time and no one was left out.

We had guys of various different skill levels, from guys who were just playing Street Fighter for the first time to guys who've played for many years. I have a good feeling that everyone will be returning for the next tournament in 2 weeks, which is much better than I was expecting.

I can't take all of the credit for the success though, so I have some shout outs.

Thanks to Travis for running the Hype engine and getting everyone interested in these events. Also thanks for the fantastic ideas to keep everyone interested. The achievement thing is going to go a long way I think.

Thanks to Ralph Robinson and Ryan Hamilton for sitting down for extended casuals and giving tips for the newer players. This really does go a long way.

Thanks to my wife, Caiti and her Mom for making our house beautifully clean for our guests. Also thanks to Caiti for showing major girl power. I think she showed that a girl in a tournament is no easy win.

Thanks to Troy for also spreading the Hype and hosting casuals at your place. I think you've got a lot of new people addicted to Street Fighter.

Last but not least, a big thanks to everyone for even showing up and playing, giving rides and providing extra controllers and games.

If I left someone out, please let me know and I'll be happy to give credit where credit is due.

So where do we go from here? The next tournament will be in 2 weeks and everyone's experience in running things and participating in tournaments will only continue to increase. If you didn't do as well as you were expecting just stick with it and try to learn from your losses. Remember it's all just for fun.

"Win or lose, as long as we learn we grow stronger."

Words to live by, gaming or not. Try to sit back and examine the mistakes you made during your matches and think of the options you had and you'll always improve.

Until next time!
