While writing game reviews is just a hobby of mine, I do take them seriously and try to be as honest and unbiased as I possibly can. My goal is simply to provide the truth about my experience with the games that I review.
I don't put a lot of stock in reviews from major publications. First of all because a positive review can be bought, whether that be a monetary or other gift to the publication. Second, because I don't really know the gaming background of the person writing the review. That's not to say someone that grew up on first person shooters is unable to give an honest review of a 2D platformer. I'd just rather hear the opinion of someone who's bread and butter is 2D platformers in that situation.
You may not agree with that, and that's fine. Some may argue that to get the most faithful data you need to go to an inexperienced source to eliminate the potential for bias. It's just my personal opinion that you shouldn't ask for car advice from your friend that only rides a bicycle, same goes for games.
The purpose of this page is to give you more information on my gaming background in the hope that it will instill more confidence in my reviews.
For starters, most of my gaming experience stems from my childhood with the nes, Sega Genesis, SNES, and from being an arcade rat. From that you can accurately deduce that my taste in gaming is usually more of what is now considered retro in variety. I love action adventure, fighting games, and most other genres that test your reflex skills. I tend to prefer 2D titles over 3D, but that's not to say I cannot appreciate modern titles. Just assume that the older stuff is my bread and butter.
I do not like to give games a final judgement on whether its good or not because I think that's subjective for the reader and the reviewer on what they consider to be a good or bad game. All I'm going to tell you in my review is the kind of experience I had.
I also do not like to give games a letter or number score simply because I find most reviewers that do this to be inconsistent with their scoring guidelines, if they even give guidelines at all. I've read too many reviews that describe the game as something that should be avoided at all cost, but in the end will score something like a 7 out of 10. To me a 7 sounds like it should be pretty good, but does it to you? Is a 5 a passable to you, or something to be avoided? I just think there's too much room for misinterpretation there, but again, this is just my opinion.
Also, I hate when a game receives a poor review based on the reviewer having a difficult time with it. Poor camera angles, glitches, and bad design making for a bad experience is one thing, but a game should not receive a poor judgement based on the fact that it was too difficult for you personally. For more on my thoughts on this I would encourage you to read this post by me here: It's not a bad game because you're bad at it.
Finally, as you read my reviews just remember that I'm doing this for fun. There aren't any reasons behind why I'll choose to review a certain game. Usually I'm just in the mood to write and I'll do one about the last game I played. Regardless, I hope that you enjoy what I've done and that maybe they were helpful in guiding you towards your next gaming experience.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
