My thoughts on the Robocop 2014 remake trailer

First of all, yes they are doing a remake/reboot of Robocop scheduled for a 2014 theatrical release. If you haven't seen the trailer yet take a look below before reading on.

I'm a huge fan of the original films and I'm excited. I feel like this is the kind of reboot the franchise needs to make Robocop relevant again.

As much as I am a fan of the first two films, we don't need to reboot back to territory we've already covered. As blasphemous as it may sound, Robocop's original, agile as a refrigerator, body is no longer relevant in a world with such breath taking robotic special effects such as Iron Man or Pacific Rim.

The updated body looks sleeker, like it's made of much lighter materials, which makes sense if you look at how the science of defense has evolved more towards more pliable kevlar like materials rather than bulky metal plating. I'm not crazy about the "more tactical" black look featured in the trailer, but I have a feeling it will only be a temporary change while Alex is still under the influence of OCP. I'm not sure what's going on with his "still fleshy" hand either, but hopefully it'll have some sort of story significance.

So yeah, I guess you could say I'm keeping a hopeful, open mind about this project. I really want a new film that does justice to the Robocop name and not some made for tv reboot. I'm hoping this film will deliver on that, but only time can tell. I'm not one to pass any final judgements until I've seen the whole thing.

I'm ready to see things go in a new direction. And if it flops? Well I've always got the classic to fall back to.

Cheers!
